CROUS Student Grant Echelon & Amounts Guide 2026
The CROUS Student Grant (Bourse sur critères sociaux) provides financial aid to higher education students in France based on household financial needs and charge points.
How CROUS Echelons Work (Échelons 0bis to 7)
The CROUS bursary system is structured into 8 distinct echelons ranging from Échelon 0bis (which grants tuition fee exemption and a basic annual sum) up to Échelon 7 (which provides up to 6,335€ per academic year).
Your echelon depends on two main metrics:
- Parental Gross Taxable Income: From your parents’ French tax statement (Revenu Fiscal de Référence).
- Charge Points: Calculated based on the distance between the family home and your university, plus the number of dependent siblings studying in higher education.
