A retirement savings projection calculator is an essential planning tool designed to help workers estimate the size of their future nest egg and plan for their financial independence. Preparing for retirement requires a clear understanding of how regular monthly contributions accumulate over your working life, and how compound interest speeds up growth. By entering your current age, your target retirement age, your current starting balance, and your planned monthly contribution, you can visualize the accumulation of your wealth over time. To ensure realistic results, this calculator estimates two key balances: the nominal balance (which is the actual numeric total of your savings) and the inflation-adjusted real balance (which translates that future total into today's buying power). Factoring in inflation is critical because it ensures your future goals are realistic. Use this simulator to compare savings rates and rate-of-return assumptions, and take control of your financial future. Having this information early allows you to make adjustments today to ensure a comfortable lifestyle in your retirement years.
🧮Methodology & Formula
Methodology & Formula
This retirement calculator projects growth over your active career (retirement age minus current age):
- Nominal Growth: Compounds interest monthly using the nominal interest rate:
Balance = Balance * (1 + (Return Rate / 12 / 100)) + Monthly Contribution. - Real Growth (Inflation-Adjusted): Compounds interest monthly using the real interest rate adjusted for inflation:
Balance = Balance * (1 + ((Return Rate - Inflation Rate) / 12 / 100)) + Monthly Contribution.
Total contributions are calculated as Monthly Contribution * total months. Total interest is nominal value minus total contributions and starting savings.
