Daily Maintenance Calories (kcal)2,592

A calorie calculator determines your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE), which is the total number of calories your body burns in a single 24-hour period based on your basal metabolic rate and daily movement. Understanding your caloric needs is vital for achieving weight-related fitness goals, such as burning fat or building muscle. By inputting your weight, height, age, biological gender, and typical activity level, the simulator projects your baseline maintenance calories. Eating this exact amount will keep your body weight constant. If you want to lose weight safely, you need to create a caloric deficit (for example, consuming 500 calories less than maintenance). Conversely, if you want to gain muscle, you require a caloric surplus. This tool provides clear guidelines for all three scenarios, helping you structure your meal plans and macronutrient counts effectively. By aligning your physical activity with your daily food choices, you can achieve your healthy weight targets efficiently.

Methodology & Formula

This calculator estimates calorie requirements using the Harris-Benedict BMR base multiplied by activity coefficients:

  • Sedentary (no exercise): BMR × 1.2
  • Lightly Active (1-3 days/week): BMR × 1.375
  • Moderately Active (3-5 days/week): BMR × 1.55
  • Active (6-7 days/week): BMR × 1.725
  • Very Active (heavy physical labor/athletics): BMR × 1.9

Weight loss values apply a standard deficit of 500 kcal (capped at a minimum of 1200 kcal/day for safety). Weight gain values apply a surplus of 500 kcal/day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many calories should I cut to lose weight?
A deficit of 500 calories per day is generally recommended to lose about 0.5 kg (1 pound) of body weight per week safely.
What is the minimum safe daily calorie intake?
For safety, it is recommended not to consume less than 1,200 calories per day for women or 1,500 calories per day for men, unless supervised by a medical professional.
Do calories burned in exercise affect this calculation?
Yes. The activity level dropdown automatically factors in average exercise calories. If you work out intensely, choose the 'Active' or 'Very Active' option.
